- Why did you choose your major?
I chose financial planning because it merges my passion for helping individuals lead meaningful lives with my hunger for financial knowledge. It’s also a smaller, albeit growing, major which has allowed me build meaningful relationships with other students and faculty.
- Why did you want to be an Ambassador?
I know a lot of people, myself included, have felt overwhelmed when searching for a major or direction when they come to UGA. FACS has given me a lot of great opportunities, academic and professional, and I want to let as many people know about the awesome community that exists in our college. If I can help even one person who was in my shoes find what they are passionate about, being an ambassador will have been worth it!
- What do you like the most about FACS?
My favorite part of FACS is the diverse array of majors found in Dawson Hall. It provides a lot of great opportunities to meet people with different career aspirations, backgrounds, and interests. I think it’s really cool to walk around Dawson and see what’s going on in all of the different classes, kitchens, and labs.
- What advice would you give to new students?
Don’t be afraid to try things you didn’t do in high school. UGA brings a lot of people from many diverse backgrounds together in one place, so branch out, meet new people, and try everything you can while you’re here. It’s the best way to make friends and discover yourself at the same time.
- What has been your favorite part of your FACS program so far?
My favorite part of the Financial Planning program so far has been my Practice Management in Financial Planning class. The class taught a variety of subjects all focused on real-life issues that financial planners face, including hiring (or getting hired), marketing, choosing a firm structure, regulatory issues, and more. I enjoyed being exposed to career-oriented information as a student because it both prepared and excited me for what comes after graduating from this program.
- What is your favorite spot to study on campus?
My favorite spot to study is the Law School, either in the Law Library or in the central courtyard. The scenery all over south campus is really pretty, and the Law School has just enough background noise during the day but is very quiet at night.
- What is one thing you wish more people knew about FACS?
I wish more people knew about the ASPIRE Clinic that FACS operates. They provide low-cost or no-cost services to individuals, couples, or families in the Athens community. I am a part of the financial counseling program this fall, but they also provide therapy, nutritional education, and legal-problem services. It’s an awesome resource for anyone looking for help, and it also helps train students for careers in counseling services.
