All UGA undergraduates are required to engage in at least one approved Experiential Learning activity that enhances learning and positions them for success after graduation. EL gives students hands-on opportunities to connect their academic foundations to the world beyond the classroom, through internships, study abroad, faculty-mentored research, service learning, and leadership opportunities.
Leadership
Develop leadership skills through engagement in Family and Consumer Sciences experiences in and outside of the classroom.
Internships and Practicums
Practice skills or methods related to your field of study through supervised work in a professional or organizational setting.
Service-Learning
Service-learning addresses a community need, issue, or problem. Apply your academic skills to solve real-life needs.
Undergraduate Research
Pursue research in any field. Undergraduate research offers you the opportunity to engage in faculty-mentored research.

The classes I took really prepared me to be successful in the workplace
I owe so much of my professional knowledge and skills to FACS. The classes I took really prepared me to be successful in the workplace... Through FACS I was able to not only intern at Athens Pregnancy Center, but also make connections with an adoption agency and have the opportunity to tutor at-risk students. Without the hands-on experiences you all made available to me, coupled with the relevant and engaging classes, I would not be nearly as confident and knowledgeable as I am now.
