Pre-med transfer student enjoys Nutritional Sciences major
- What school did you transfer from?
Georgia Southern University
- Why did you decide to transfer to UGA?
I decided to transfer to UGA because I wanted to have a multitude of opportunities when it came to career advancement, as well as student engagement. I have seen firsthand how great this university is at allowing students to prosper and thrive in making connections that propel them to be great in their careers of choice.
- What is your major?
Nutritional Sciences
- Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because I wanted a unique connection to patient care as a pre-medical student. Nutrition is a fundamental factor that impacts health and wellness, which I think is often seen in medical/healthcare settings. I like how diverse this major is in how it can be utilized in everyday life and how it can benefit the lives of people.
- What activities or student orgs do you participate in?
Transfer Ambassador Program; National Council of Negro Women; Girls in Healthcare; Girl Gains
- What do you like about FACS?
I like that FACS is a college that offers a wide variety of differing majors that all involve catering to people in some format. There are also endless opportunities for career growth in each of these majors contained within this college.
- Is there a faculty or staff person who has been particularly helpful during your transfer journey?
Yes, the three faculty members that have been helpful during my transfer journey are Aimee Dowd, Litashia Carter, and Beverly Hull. Both Aimee and Litashia have served as advisors for me when working to foster a better transfer student community. Beverly Hull has been instrumental in helping me structure my schedule in a way that has prepared me for postgraduate education and my future career.
- What has your favorite UGA and/or FACS experience been?
My favorite UGA and/or FACS experiences have been the transfer student events I have hosted or helped host. One event was a game night in FACS for transfer students in Spring 2024. I got to hear from students who transferred into UGA that semester and learn about their unique transfer experience. The other event was a collaboration with UGA Union to host the annual Movie on Myers. At this event, I got to engage with the student community, both transfer and non-transfer, and encourage them to learn about the work we do to support the transfer student experience and advertise about National Transfer Student Week.
