- Why I chose my major
At the beginning of college, I struggled to find a major that fit my wide range of interests without limiting future career options. I chose Human Development and Family Science because it offers a firm foundation for working with people of all backgrounds and walks of life. It combines a concrete understanding of development with more abstract skills such as perspective-taking, critical thinking and empathy. HDFS aligns with my passions for whole-person health, youth development, community development and education for all. What excites me most about the field of Human Development and Family Science is its aim to strengthen families and communities, the basis of a thriving society!
- What I like most about FACS
It has been a pleasure to be part of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences because of the people. Especially in upper-level HDFS classes, I was able to build relationships with peers and professors through smaller class sizes, discussions and activities. I am thankful for the commitment the faculty has to pursuing excellence and strengthening students, promoting a vibrant learning environment.
- Post-graduation plans
I plan to continue exploring my interests of education and community development, potentially designing hands-on learning experiences for children, or supporting refugee families while working for a non-profit organization. Whatever the future holds, I look forward to learning, growing, serving and enjoying all that life has to offer every step of the way!
