Post-graduation Plans

I plan to take a year off to accumulate patient care hours as a medical assistant before applying to PA school to make me a more competitive applicant. My dream job would be being a pediatric physician assistant at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Why did you choose your major?

I chose HDFS because I wanted a major that would complement my science courses in preparing me for a career in healthcare. HDFS teaches me about holistic care by evaluating individuals across the lifespan in their cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development. This knowledge will prepare me to be a well-rounded physician assistant who can advocate for my patients.

Why did you want to become an Ambassador?

I wanted to become a FACS ambassador to encourage other UGA students pursuing a career in healthcare to look into the majors in FACS. I was able to find something I loved to study that would also
equip me for my future and I want to help others do the same.

What do you like the most about FACS?

What I love most about FACS is how passionate and engaged all of the students are. It is really special to be in classes where everyone is genuinely so excited to learn.

What advice would you give to new students?

Be fully present in your classes! Don’t just show up to class, come ready to engage and with an open mind. A lot of my classes are very discussion based and the professors love to hear from us.

What has been your favorite part of your FACS program so far?

I love that my major has an internship built into it! This semester I am interning as a medical assistant and am able to apply my HDFS knowledge to that role and it is a really exciting glimpse into my
future.

What is your favorite spot to study on campus?

I really like the third floor of tate. It is usually pretty quiet and has some great views of campus!

What is one thing you wish more people knew about FACS?

I wish more people knew about the diversity of majors within FACS. From fashion merchandising to financial planning to nutrition to HDFS, FACS houses so many unique pathways and I believe there is something for almost anyone here.
