My goal is to have a merchandising position or position related to consumer behavior for an apparel company.
- Why did you choose your major?
I chose fashion merchandising because I used to sew clothing when I was younger and have always had an interest in fashion. I am particularly interested in buying, so I added this major to help prepare me for a role in that field. I chose consumer economics because I am passionate about studying and understanding consumer buying behavior. I enjoy learning about why consumers make the choices they do. I recently declared a major in housing management and policy because it goes well with consumer economics and was previously my minor. When I found out I could still graduate on time and make it my major, I decided to add it. I have enjoyed learning about the housing industry and could see myself working in it one day, so I decided it would be worth my time to get the degree.
- Why did you want to become an Ambassador?
I wanted to become an ambassador because FACS was one of the first places where I felt truly welcomed at UGA, so I wanted to become more involved with the college. I feel like I have a lot of insight into my majors, and I enjoy talking to prospective students as to why they should study FACS majors. I feel that FACS classes provide students with useful life skills, and this was a message I wanted to spread.
- What do you like the most about FACS?
I like that FACS is a small college, so I have found a sense of community in FACS during my time here. I like the fact that I can get to know my professors and faculty on a personal level.
- What advice would you give to new students?
If you think you are interested in a major or area of study, try to take a class in that field your first year to see if you like the department. If you find a new area of study you are interested in, don’t be afraid to change your major or add a new major. If you feel tied down to your major or don’t feel passionate about it anymore, consider finding a different path.
- What has been your favorite part of your FACS program so far?
My favorite part of my FACS program so far has been taking Dr. Moorman’s classes. Her class is what motivated me to declare consumer economics as my major, and I enjoy her teaching style. I have always enjoyed her classes and feel like I have learned a lot after taking multiple classes with her.
- What is your favorite spot to study on campus?
Dawson Hall
- What is one thing you wish more people knew about FACS?
I wish more people knew the various types of FACS classes that are offered and how applicable they are to everyday life. You can learn many life skills through FACS that will be helpful in your personal and professional life. For example, taking personal finance classes helps students understand important financial concepts they must know to be financially well in their lives.
