Post-graduation Plans

I am currently on the pre-genetic counseling track. After graduation, I hope to get a job as a genetic counseling assistant or in a related field to get experience before applying to graduate programs. Genetic counseling programs are typically 24 months. I would love to get the chance to live in a new city, try plenty of new restaurants, and travel internationally, too!

Why did you choose your major?

I came into college unsure what I wanted my major to be. After researching the classes, I became extremely interested in Nutritional Sciences because of the range of classes offered within the major. The classes include realms of public health, human development, and different aspects of human anatomy. In all of my classes, I have met many students who are also interested in pursuing healthcare professions.

Why did you want to become an Ambassador?

I wanted to become an ambassador because I was amazed by the unique culture seen in the College of FACS as soon as I switched my major into the college. I love how the majors are so diverse - from furnishings and interiors to fashion merchandising to dietetics - but all have a common goal of working to better the lives of others. I want to share my passion of doing my part to better the lives of others with my peers!

What do you like the most about FACS?

I love the uplifting staff in FACS. All of my professors in my NUTR and HDFS classes and advisors are always so encouraging and accommodating to their students. There is an indescribable welcoming energy in FACS classrooms that you cannot find anywhere else on campus.

What advice would you give to new students?

My advice to new students is to say “yes” to as many opportunities as you can. Whether it's joining a club, going to the dining hall with a new friend, taking a walk on campus, or going to check out a new study spot, take advantage of everything UGA has to offer. We go to such an amazing institution, and the years fly by!

What has been your favorite part of your FACS program so far?

My favorite part of the FACS program so far has been taking HDFS 2100 with Dr. Jennifer George. Her class really made me have a new perspective on social interaction, families, and myself. I always looked forward to every class and had a lot of fun!

What is your favorite spot to study on campus?

My favorite spot to study on campus would have to be the 4th floor of the MLC. I have been going there since freshman year, and I am always able to focus in the quiet environment with lots of natural light. I love to stop by Tate Starbucks before hunkering down with my work.

What is one thing you wish more people knew about FACS?

I wish more people knew that FACS is part of everyone’s life, every single day. Every aspect of life is related to FACS, and learning about it can make you appreciate the little things so much more!
