Research

My prior research has involved designing to improve the quality of life for seniors in assisted living facilities; aging in place and place attachment; the sustainable built environment for educational buildings through parallel analysis in utilizing LEED; and retail design involving space planning, merchandising and utilizing sustainable practices such as LED lighting, and environmentally friendly finishes and fixtures.

Teaching

AutoCAD & 3D AutoCAD for a variety of studios from residential to commercial design. Specialty design, space planning, drafting, perspective drawing, interior detailing, kitchen and bath design, portfolio, market resources, & hospitality design. I also wrote and taught courses online.

Outreach

In the past I have worked with students in the IIDA competition in which they came in third place. I have judged/juries the IIDA Ovation Awards for interior design for all types of projects ranging from commercial to residential. The goal is to be active in the interior design community through participation and volunteering. I am also an NCIDQ Ambassador, promoting licensure to former students and colleagues and I offer tutoring/mentoring to aid them in this process.

Areas of Expertise

AutoCAD, 3D AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD Standards, commercial and residential design, construction documents, project management, space planning, specifications, code review, and ADA compliance.

Current Research

I have always had a broad interest in researching topics that involve the built environment such as sustainable design, eco-friendly materials and finishes, lighting, ergonomics, anthropometrics, color theory, and the importance of incorporating nature into holistic design.
