I am concerned about what to do with old over the counter medicines. They are outdated, but can I flush them or is there something else I should do?

Contact your county and/or city government's trash and recycling service in order to see if there is a drug take-back program in your area. Please visit this FDA site for information on medication disposal. Flushing your medicine is not recommended as it can affect the local water supply.

With the weather like it has been, I am thinking of spring cleaning my house. I have been collecting a lot of electronics because I don't know what to do with them, and I also have two car seats from when my kids were small. Can I sell the car seats? And what do I do with the three computer monitors in my garage?

Do not dispose of computer monitors or other electronics in your everyday trash. Visit www.Earth911.com to find out where to drop off computer monitors and other household electronics or contact your local recycling or waste management provider.

Though it is legal to sell and buy a second hand car seat in the state of Georgia, it is not recommended. If a car seat has been involved in an accident then the integrity of that car seat has been compromised. According to Georgia Highway Safety, second hand car seats can be dangerous as they may be missing parts and/or not crashworthy. Also, it is possible the car seat has been recalled. Finally, the majority of car seats have an expiration date. If you would like more information, please contact the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute at www.RideSafeGeorgia.org or call toll-free 1-800-342-9818.

Is it possible to recycle previous versions of software?

Err on the side of caution. Each software has its own unique license agreement. Read the license agreement for the particular software and contact the manufacturer with the serial number to ensure you have interpreted the agreement properly. It is through the license agreement and/or speaking with the manufacturer that you will determine if a previous version of software can be recycled, as in downloaded onto another computer and used again.

Additionally, never dispose of compact discs (CDs) in your everyday trash as they can be recycled. Go to www.Earth911.com to find out where to drop off CDs or contact your local recycling or waste management provider.
