The Family and Consumer Sciences Education is a major offered jointly by FACS and the College of Education. Graduates of this program will be eligible for state educator certification in Family and Consumer Sciences for grades 6-12.
Shape Futures
FACS educators are equipped to help others improve the quality of their lives and the health of their communities. Shape the career path of others by teaching courses on human development, personal and family finance, housing and interior design, food science, nutrition, textiles and apparel, and consumer issues.
Curriculum
The FACS Education program of study at UGA has been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to prepare educators for certification. The curriculum is comprised of College of Education teaching methodology courses and courses from each of the departments in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences:
- Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics
- Human Development and Family Science
- Nutritional Sciences
- Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors
Double Dawgs Pathway
Earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in five years (or less) with this program through our partnership with the College of Education: Family and Consumer Sciences Education B.S.F.C.S. / Workforce Education M.A.T.

Academic Advising
Academic and career advising are supported by FACS and the UGA College of Education in order to prepare students for success. Students will be guided through the process of applying for teacher certification in Georgia’s tiered system.
Career Opportunities
FACS Education majors often have multiple teaching offers in the state of Georgia after graduation. Graduates may be employed in schools, Cooperative Extension offices, government agencies, business and industry, community-based nonprofits or in any business where FACS content knowledge and teaching skills are required.
