How We Can Help

The Love and Money Center can help you reach your goals and feel more empowered. Find out more about our services below.

All services at the Love and Money Center (LMC) are provided by University of Georgia students. Our student service providers work with each individual, couple, or family in a responsive manner, attending to the concerns they are experiencing and empowering them to find solutions. As a training clinic, our student service providers are supervised by UGA faculty, and sessions may be observed or recorded for training purposes.

Many people have questions when they decide to seek support for mental health, relationships, and financial concerns. We hope this page will answer some of them – but you are always welcome to call us 706-542-4486 with any specifics.

What does it mean to be a training center?

A training center is a place where students apply the knowledge and skills they learn in their classes and meet certain requirements of their programs, such as working directly with clients. There are some advantages to seeking services from a training center, including potentially lower costs, as well as a team approach where a team of therapists may help to provide ideas and feedback about your concerns.

The therapy interns at the Love and Money Center are graduate students working towards a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in couple and family therapy. In order to do this, they must receive supervised experience in providing therapy. Their work with clients is overseen and supported by faculty who are licensed therapists and Approved Supervisors.

Our financial coaches are undergraduate or graduate students studying financial planning. Their work is overseen by faculty who are trained in financial planning & financial counseling, and who specialize in behavioral financial planning/financial therapy.

Client sessions may be viewed directly by faculty and observation teams, or they may be viewed via recordings in order to provide feedback to the service providers. Supervision of our students helps to ensure you are receiving quality services. All cases must be supervised and regular meetings occur between students and their supervisors to discuss case progress.

What do financial coaching services cost?

Financial coaching services are provided at no cost.

What do therapy services cost?

Individual, couple, and family therapy services are provided on a sliding fee scale from $15-$75 based on your annual household income and ability to pay.

Our initial appointments - where we have you complete some assessments and get to know you, your goals, and your family and health history better - are offered at no cost.

How do I pay for therapy services?

Payment is due at the time of your session. We accept credit/debit cards, cash (exact change only), or personal checks.

Clients also have the option to pay for their services conveniently online before their session (please note that online payment is required for telehealth clients who do not attend sessions in person).

Important instructions for making payments online are included here.

Can I use insurance to pay for services?

Because we operate on a sliding fee scale, we do not bill insurance. Clients will often find our fees to be lower than their insurance co-pay. Upon request, the Center will provide receipts that clients can submit to their insurance company on their own if they desire. There is no guarantee services will be covered by your insurance, as many do not accept therapists-in-training (interns) as covered therapists.

Does the Love and Money Center (LMC) do evaluations and testing?

No, we do not provide psychological evaluations or testing. To clarify the scope of our therapy services, we do not offer:

  • psychological evaluations and testing
  • developmental or disability testing for children & adolescents
  • custody evaluations
  • drug/alcohol testing or treatment services
Does the LMC prescribe medication?

No, we do not prescribe any medications or offer medication management services. We do not have any medication on site, nor do we have prescription writing capabilities. We can help refer clients to a psychiatrist or another provider if this is something that they would like to explore.

Does the LMC offer telehealth sessions?

Yes, we do offer tele-sessions for clients residing within the state of Georgia. However, we will talk with you first to ensure this is an appropriate way to address your concerns/needs.

How do I set up an appointment for therapy?

To set up an initial appointment, you can call 706-542-4486 or send an appointment request form via our website‬. Our office manager will collect some information from you and offer you a spot on the waitlist. Once a therapy student is available, we will contact you to set up a time for a brief phone intake. This phone call helps us to better understand your needs, concerns, and goals - and assists us (and you!) in determining if the Love and Money Center is the best fit.

After the phone intake, your student therapist may offer you an initial appointment where additional information is gathered or they may offer you a referral if they/their supervisor believe you and your needs could be best served elsewhere.

How do I set up an appointment for financial coaching?

To set up an initial appointment, you can call 706-542-4486 or send an appointment request form via our website‬. Our office manager will collect some information from you and may offer you a spot on the waitlist if no appointments are currently available. As soon as there is an opening, we will contact you to set up a time for an initial appointment.

What is the cancellation and no-show policy?

We ask that clients make every effort to attend their scheduled appointments. However, we also understand that unexpected circumstances can make it difficult to keep appointments and we try to be as flexible as we can in instances of illness and emergency. If you need to reschedule or cancel, we ask that you contact us with at least 24-hour notice when possible. Cancellations without adequate notice or no-shows will be charged the full session fee at our discretion.

Where can I park?

Client parking is available while attending appointments at the LMC. Please park in Lot S10, located at the corner of Sanford Drive and Carlton Street. There are 4 green parking spaces labeled "L&M Center" for clients of the Love and Money Center. Please avoid parking in regular spaces or spaces that say "Parent Parking". Once you check in for your appointment, you will receive a parking pass that should be displayed whenever you attend appointments.
