Through courses in consumer economics, students learn about the roles of consumers, the roles of producers, the government in our economic system, and the decision-making process. In addition, Consumer Economics addresses financial, housing, and consumer questions that directly affect family economic well-being. Through this program students study available options and how to get the most for their money in specific areas of spending, such as food, transportation, housing and insurance.

The Housing Management and Policy major is a flexible degree program that blends social and behavioral sciences, public policy, planning, management and economics. Students can tailor their coursework to several different pathways for ranging from jobs in residential real estate, private and public sector housing data analytics, community development and local and federal housing-related public policy positions.

Financial Planning

UGA’s Financial Planning program is ranked among the best in the country. The Financial Planning major prepares students to become client-focused professional financial planners who help individuals and families create, manage and transfer wealth efficiently. The Financial Planning undergraduate program provides you with knowledge, skills, and technical expertise to enter the marketplace as a financial planner or financial counselor. It also gives you the education requirement needed to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Certification Exam and/or the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) exam.

Social Entrepreneurship for Consumer Well-being

Social Entrepreneurship is a high-demand major with flexible coursework allowing students to tailor your education to suit their professional goals. In addition to their core classes, students will curate a set of classes from across campus based on their interests and career objectives to complete their degree. Social Entrepreneurship equips students with the process, skills, and knowledge they require to shine the light and solve the riddle for a variety of wicked, interdisciplinary consumer problems in society. The major prepares students for positions in non-profit and for-profit organizations in areas such as innovation, strategy, program design, or corporate social responsibility. These majors are also very likely to launch a company with a conscience.
