Through hands-on experience with real clients, close faculty mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge approaches, our students learn to address the complex intersection of relational and financial health- preparing them to make meaningful impact throughout their careers.

Immersive Training

Couple and Family Therapy Practicum

Master's and doctoral students in UGA's Couple and Family Therapy programs engage in clinical training at the Love and Money Center, working with individuals, couples, and families under weekly supervision. Students develop essential clinical skills, integrate theory into practice, and grow as systemic therapists while providing compassionate care to community members.

Financial Planning Practicum

Students in UGA's Financial Planning program and Behavioral Financial Planning/Financial Therapy certificate program provide financial planning and coaching services to clients while developing their communication skills and theoretical approach. Through supervised client work, case presentations, and collaborative learning, students gain practical experience in helping people build healthier relationships with money.

Interdisciplinary Education

FHCE 8550: Money and Relationships

This course explores the connection between money and couple and family relationships. You'll examine how attitudes about money develop, how financial patterns show up in relationships, and the factors that impact how individuals, couples, and families perceive and manage money. Through engaging with current research and gaining personal insight into your own relationship with money, you'll develop the skills to work effectively with clients experiencing financial stress. The course covers systems theory, relational money dynamics, financial socialization, money conflict, financial trauma, and basic financial planning strategies. This course addresses many competency areas for the Certified Financial Therapist™ designation.

This course is open to all UGA undergraduate and graduate students.

Prerequisite

  • One of the following: FHCE 3200, FHCE 3200E, FHCE 3250, FHCE 3250E, FHCE 8200, FHCE 8200E, or permission of department

Pre- or Co-Requisite

  • One of the following: FHCE 5200, FHCE 7200, FHCE 7200E, or permission of department
