Undergraduate CFT Internship

Undergraduate Internship in Couple and Family Therapy

The Couple and Family Therapy Internship experience is open to UGA undergraduate students (ideally 3rd or 4th years) looking for an incredible and intensive opportunity that prepares them for graduate training in couple and family therapy and related mental health fields. Focusing on personal and professional development, interns will gain foundational knowledge in theories, principles, and clinical skills utilized by couple and family therapists and other complementary therapy professionals. The internship requires a year-long commitment (a full academic year, both fall and spring semesters).

Applications for our Fall 2025/Spring 2026 internship cohort are being accepted now. The deadline for applying is February 10th, 2025. Feel free to contact Dr. Megan Ford for additional information.

What Will I Learn and Do?

Our Couple and Family Therapy Undergraduate Interns fulfill a comprehensive range of responsibilities throughout their internship experience.

  • Interns have an opportunity to join observation teams and participate in a clinical practicum in couple and family therapy, where they may observe live sessions, witness the therapy supervision process, and contribute to clinical case conceptualization processes. In practicum, interns also engage in clinical discussions with seasoned faculty and therapists-in-training, as well as gain insight into various theoretically-informed skills, techniques, and interventions found within couple and family therapy practices.
  • Interns review videos and readings, and complete course assignments related to self-growth, self-care, and the practice of couple and family therapy.
  • Interns work as a cohort to enhance learning and skills application opportunities. Class meetings provide a forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange about readings, assignments, and activities.
  • Interns support the Love and Money Center's outreach programming and may participate in community and campus efforts focused on promoting well-being.

Who Should Apply?

UGA undergraduate students who apply should have a strong interest in pursuing graduate programs in couple and family therapy. We look for interns who exude a positive attitude, independence, and self-motivation - and who display high levels of maturity and dependability.
