There is a dedicated computer lab for the technical courses and studio classes where the students learn how to use AutoCAD, REVIT, Design 2020 and various other programs to complete their projects.
-
AutoCAD
For TXMI 3330 Computer Aided Residential Design, students are introduced to AutoCAD where they convert what they have learned in hand drafting to the computer. They learn how to generate a set of construction documents for a single story home including:
- space planning
- roof/site plans
- electrical & lighting plans
- finish plans
- interior and exterior elevations
- a wall section
-
REVIT
Then students are introduced to REVIT, 3D modeling software in which they learn how to build models in the computer. They start out with a small lake cabin and create a small set of construction documents and the same for a small commercial project. There is a second semester TXMI 5330 Advanced Computer Aided Design in which they continue to develop their skills in AutoCAD and REVIT with more complex projects such as a tenant improvement space that includes creating a pricing set of construction documents in AutoCAD.
