The Historic Clothing and Textile Collection (HCTC) in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors consists of around 3,000 garments, accessories, and textiles that date from the 1800s to the present day. Our extensive collection features women's and men's wear, including clothing, hats, shoes, and jewelry, as well as quilts and coverlets. In addition to clothing and textile artifacts, the collection contains pictorial items that represent historic dress, including authentic photographs and magazines such as Godey's Lady Book and Vogue.
Mission
Our mission is to be a valuable platform for outreach, experiential learning, teaching, research, inclusivity, and inspiration at the University of Georgia. Our goal is to allow for further knowledge of the state of Georgia’s regional history inside and outside of the classroom, while providing important examples of structural design elements and notable designers.
