  • CURO Research Award

    Visit CURO

    The CURO Research Award (formerly known as the CURO Research Assistantship) supports experiential learning opportunities that only a major research university can provide. Each year, as part of an initiative to enhance the UGA learning environment, the CURO Research Award provides 500 scholarships of $1,000 each to outstanding undergraduate students across campus to actively participate in faculty-mentored research. Students selected for this award have the opportunity to assist faculty in the Historic Clothing and Textiles Collection.

  • Fashion in the Museum

    • Course ID: FYOS 1001 1 hour
    • Course Description: Fashion in the museum is a vibrant exploration of the design exhibits that capture our attention, represent our lives, and inspire our creative passions, as well as the archives that document our cultures, innovations, and artistic pursuits. This class is an introduction to ideas concerning administration, curatorial, collections management, technology, and education & outreach of historic clothing and textiles in collections. The class will learn about the 3500 object UGA Historic Clothing and Textiles Collection (HCTC) that is housed in the Special Collections Library, with hands-on engagement with garments, as well as a tour of the UGA vault! We will also explore other UGA archives that have clothing and textiles, and visit the Georgia Museum of Art where HCTC objects are on display. Students will learn about clothing and textiles collections throughout the United States and abroad and explore research opportunities and methods, degrees, certificates, and professions in museums, archives, and galleries.

  • Museum Introduction in Clothing and Textiles

    • Course Description: Learn about and explore issues concerning preservation, accession/de-accession, databases, and display of historic clothing and textiles in museums and galleries. Introduction to collection management, exhibitions, educational use, funding, and publicity. The class will do research in the Historic Clothing and Textiles collection that is housed in the Special Collections Library.
